Blackberry lived with us for over 10 years, he was the sweetest, most gentle natured, house bunny who opened my eyes into the bunny world. One of the numerous things I previously didn't know about bunnies before he entered our lives, was how many domesticated bunnies are abandoned, with dedicated rescue centres inundated.

 

I’m Elizabeth Kay, a portrait artist. My studio (complete with bunny companions) is close to a wonderful bunny sanctuary - Stichting Opvang Konijnenparadijs, where I’m a volunteer. I visit weekly to help with feeding and cleaning. It’s my favourite day of the week! The sanctuary relies on donations to keep the doors open, and in 2022 I felt compelled to raise some much needed funds for them, as in one day alone they rescued 131 bunnies. The fund raising was a huge success which has led me to creating Blackberry’s Friends, a place to purchase animal portraits and with each item purchased, the proceeds are shared with the rescue centre (listed in the description).
